New knowledge product: Nature-based solutions in urban development
How can nature-based solutions be integrated into large scale urban development projects – not as green decoration, but as part of the development strategy itself?
This question is at the heart of a new knowledge brief from BLOXHUB’s Nature-based Solutions Network. The brief brings together the first insights from the network’s workshop on greenfield sites, where Kildedal By in Ballerup was used as a concrete case.
Kildedal By is a strong example of how nature, urban development, stormwater management, biodiversity and communities can be considered together from the outset. The project includes both a major urban development area and an equivalent area dedicated to nature, and is based on an ambition to create a vibrant town where nature plays an active role in the development.
The knowledge brief shows that nature-based solutions require more than good intentions and strong design concepts. They need to be supported by clear governance models, financing, data, monitoring and ongoing involvement of citizens, experts, authorities and other stakeholders.
The Nature-based Solutions Network is anchored in BLOXHUB and brings together actors from across the urban development value chain – including public authorities, private consultancies, developers, investors, researchers and green organisations.
